Diz (Joel Courtney) is a defiant young outcast navigating a life of constant movement. Orphaned as a child, he has long survived on his own, rejecting charity and embracing a survivalist mentality. His days are spent taking what he needs and vanishing into the night. Tired and resolute, Diz exists in a state of solitary defiance, his actions shaped by a history of theft and emotional abandonment. This changes when he stumbles upon a tranquil town situated along the Snake River. There, he encounters an unshakable elder named Marty and becomes entangled with Marty's reserved granddaughter, Selah. When Diz commits a brazen heist against a chaotic drug dealer, he unexpectedly accumulates a fortune that draws the attention of two relentless killers. As he grapples with newfound wealth and pursuers, Diz inadvertently endangers those he has come to care for, all while striving to win Selah's affection. Yet, some truths cannot be acquired through theft or transaction. The River Thief ultimately explores themes of remorse, personal sacrifice, and the transformative power of recognizing life's inherent value.
